Dental Crown Price Ranges

Today, there are many types of crowns out on the market, and each material and kind will make the dental crown cost more or less. There are currently four main types of crowns available: full metal, porcelain fused to metal, full resin and full porcelain.

Full Metal

These crowns are usually made out of gold, and they range at an average price on the crown market. The advantage to this kind of dental crown is that less of the tooth has to be removed, which preserves more of your tooth’s health and makes the crown last longer. Unfortunately, because it is made of gold, it is noticeably not your natural tooth.

The price of a full metal crown can be affected by the mixture of metals it is made of; the more precious metals it uses, the higher the cost. Each metal crown usually ranges between $700 and $1500.

Porcelain Fused to Metal

The porcelain-fused-to-metal crown is a bit pricier than full metal. These are made of metal, but have a porcelain cover, allowing the crown to look like a natural tooth. The disadvantages of this kind, however, are that the metal underneath the porcelain often leaves a dark line across the tooth. This type of crown will also break more easily, and can often damage the surrounding teeth. The average porcelain-fused-to-metal dental crown cost is between $700 and $1300, once again dependent upon the type of metal used.

Full Resin

Full resin dental crowns are definitely at the low end of the dental crown cost range, and that’s because they don’t last as long or function as well. They are often damaging to the surrounding teeth and will crack or chip far more easily than other kinds of crowns. Despite this, the price is often more affordable, between $600 and $1200.

Full Porcelain

If you have the money or the insurance coverage and you are more concerned about the cosmetic aspect of the crown, this is the kind for you. While the full porcelain dental crown price is between $800 and $1750, it offers a fully natural looking crown for your tooth. Unfortunately, these are also more fragile and can often cause more damage to their neighboring teeth.
